Sports Massage Therapy is growing rapidly as a method of rehabilitation and well-being for injured or injury free individuals. It is a way to repair damaged muscles and relax stressed areas so that physiology is restored to its fully functional state.
By using sports massage to manually push waste products such as lactic acid out of the body, patients are left feeling fresh and revitalised. This effect also encourages more efficient and stronger movement from the muscles.
Whether an elite athlete with shoulder pain or a parent who is suffering from lower back pain, perhaps as a result of lifting children or shopping, sports massage will reduce stiffness, pain and fatigue. Additional benefits being increased flexibility and greater range of movement.
Sports massage makes use of the ancient principles of massage technique. Though the title may suggest a focus on sports related injuries, in fact it benefits anyone who is suffering from aches and pains brought on by our busy modern lifestyle.
Pain is one of the body’s warning signals that alerts you to the fact that something is wrong. Pain also makes the individual aware that any further actions would damage the body by causing injury.
Pain is often the result of muscle fibres being damaged, leading to inflammation. This inflammation puts added pressure onto the body’s pain receptors resulting in reduced range of movement and mobility around the joints.
Do you experience any of the following?
- Muscle stiffness
- Muscle pain
- Muscle fatigue
If the answer is yes to any of the above, find out how sports massage can help.
The soft tissue therapy I provide aims to treat localised areas of concern with the object of reducing pain while at the same time supporting the bodies natural repair processes.
There are many benefits to sports massage that include:
- Improving neural and hormonal systems
- Removal of waste products and toxins from the body through stimulation of muscle fibres
- Reduction in overall stress levels
I offer advice to speed up recovery and the return to full functionality which in turn reduces the risk of reoccurrences. Each session includes a minimum of 30 minutes of manual therapy that includes various simple movement tests to assess functionality.
Please note: You will normally be asked to remove some clothing necessary to perform specific movements without interference and to allow massage to be applied. Effective massage will also sometimes dictate that wearing of shorts is essential.
